I carried that west. The jokes stayed. So did being on time, and knowing who sat down.
Vancouver
I arrived with one chair.
I set it inside Dipt Kicks, a downtown sneaker shop.
People came back. They brought friends. The chair started to feel like it was staying.
On set
The day does not wait.
Call time. Continuity. Changing light. A whole department before I touch anyone.
I write the detail down. I move. I keep what I hear to myself.
The comeback
Then a door closed.
I had more than one location. Then I had to choose what still worked.
A location closed. I kept the people I could keep. I kept the standard.
The Academy
What took me years, I don't want them guessing.
I watched kids stand at the back of the room and leave no closer to a decision.
I put the tools in their hands. I watch. I say what I see. They do it again.
